About Us
The Office of Faculty Development supports faculty in the medical and health professions in their roles as teachers. Our goal is to cultivate a culture of teaching that fosters engagement and inclusion.
Who We Are
Our provincial team of faculty and staff is part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine Office of the Vice Dean, Education portfolio. We work closely with Faculty of Medicine educational leaders in the MD Undergraduate Program, Postgraduate Medical Education, and Health Professional programs to support faculty in their teaching and educational roles.
In alignment with the Faculty of Medicine Strategic Plan, our vision is to support programs and faculty at all career stages with evidence-informed teaching resources. We believe that promoting culturally safe, inclusive, and respectful teaching and learning environments will result in better educational experiences for our educators and our learners.
What We Do
Our mandate is to support faculty at all levels of teaching through a province-wide delivery model. We work collaboratively to:

- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate effective and flexible educational activities that meet the current and future needs of teachers and educational programs.
- Support a collaborative, interprofessional network of teachers and clinician educators.
- Promote a culture of lifelong teaching and learning within the Faculty of Medicine.
Faculty of Medicine Education Portfolios We Support
MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP)
The MD Undergraduate Program is regionally distributed across the province of British Columbia. Each regional site has Faculty Development Director(s) who oversee the delivery of site-specific faculty development based on their contextual needs. Additionally, we work collaboratively with Regional Faculty Development Directors on the development and dissemination of provincial and programmatic faculty development.

Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME)
With a province-wide delivery model, the Postgraduate Medical Education Office supports over 75 residency training programs to train postgraduate trainees across the province. We work closely with PGME and faculty development leads to create supports and resources for PGME faculty, program directors and site leads. Additionally, we support resident teaching through the Resident as Teachers program.

Health Professional Education (HP)
We work with the health professional programs in the Faculty of Medicine to assist in meeting their faculty development needs. The health professional programs include: Audiology & Speech Sciences, Genetic Counselling, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy.

Faculty of Medicine Partner Units
We work collaboratively with our partners units in the Faculty of Medicine to support faculty who teach.
The Office of Respective Environments, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (REDI) provides leadership, consultation, capacity-building and education in anti-oppression, equity, respectful environments, inclusion, decolonization and Indigenization. REDI works in partnership with leaders, faculty, staff and learners to promote the individual and systemic changes required to create and sustain our aspirational learning and work environments and transform our culture.
The Center for Health Education Scholarship (CHES) is a provincial health professions education scholarship center in the Faculty of Medicine that supports health through education scholarship and research.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is an academic unit within the Faculty of Medicine that supports health care professionals in their roles as clinicians and health care providers through the design, delivery, accreditation, evaluation and research of lifelong learning opportunities.
EdTech – Technology Enabled Learning and Innovation is an interdisciplinary team of instructional designers, story tellers through video and podcasting, innovators in virtual reality artificial intelligence and learning analytics, and consultants who support faculty driven pedagogical change enhanced by technology in the Faculty of Medicine.
The Office of Clinical Faculty Affairs is an advocate for, and fosters recognition and reward of, clinical faculty, as well as supporting and promoting other clinical faculty initiatives.
