AI in Teaching and Learning
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as large language models, ambient scribing, and adaptive learning platforms are rapidly becoming embedded in health professions education. The Community of Practice for Artificial Intelligence in Teaching and Learning is a recurring forum for teaching faculty, educators, and educational leaders in the UBC Faculty of Medicine to share and discuss evidence-informed practices and respond collectively to the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Who should join?
Any faculty in the medical and health professional programs in the UBC Faculty of Medicine who wants to learn more about the role and impact of AI on teaching and learning are welcome to attend. This includes teaching faculty, curriculum and program leaders, and faculty developers. Come to as many sessions as you want – or just one.
While all levels of experience with AI are welcome, discussions may explore topics in depth.
Goals of the Community of Practice

- Foster faculty learning and collaboration across the medical and health professions
- Enable evidence-informed responses to the evolving AI landscape, grounding practice in emerging research
- Support alignment with existing institutional AI policies and guidelines
- Identify and address equity, accessibility, Indigenous and ethical dimensions of AI in education
Session Structure
Each session will showcase a speaker who will share recent research, institutional data, policy updates, a tool, framework, or teaching resource. The group will discuss, ask questions, explore challenges, and identify strategies/future actions.
