January 2024 Issue

Congratulations to 2023-24 Faculty Resident Development Initiatives Grant (FRDIG) Recipients!

2023 Faculty/ Resident Development Initiatives Grant (FRDIG) – Call for Applications is Now Open!

The Faculty/ Resident Development Initiatives Grant (FRDIG) offered by the Office of Faculty Development supports projects from faculty and residents in the Faculty of Medicine. The focus of the projects must aim to enhance the quality or scholarship of teaching in the Faculty of Medicine within the faculty development priority areas of health professions education that are widely transferrable across contexts.

March 2023 Issue

This year’s annual Medical Education Day was held on Friday March 3rd, in-person at the University Golf Club.

The theme for the day was Teaching and Assessing Learners with Disabilities. The 17th William Webber Lecturer was Dr. Lisa Meeks from the University of Michigan Medical Schooland and her talk was on Creating Inclusive Training Programs for Trainees with Disabilities.

January 2023 Issue

Dr. Heather Buckley has been appointed as Associate Dean, Faculty Development in the Faculty of Medicine, effective to November 30, 2027.

Dr. Buckley is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Family Practice and a scholar at the Centre for Health Education Scholarship (CHES). Her history of involvement in the Faculty of Medicine includes 20 years as a teacher and 10 years as a leader on the Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP) Faculty Development team. Dr. Buckley is the Provincial Portfolio Lead for the Undergraduate Medical Education Program, served as a fellow in CHES’s Clinical Educator Fellowship Program, and is a recipient of the Association of the Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) Award for Outstanding Contribution to Faculty Development in Canada.

November 2022 Issue 

Thank you to Dr. Kiran Veerapen!

Dr. Kiran Veerapen has provided inspirational leadership to the Faculty Development portfolio within the Faculty of Medicine for the past seven years in her role as Assistant Dean. As her term comes to an end on December 31st, 2022, staff at the Office of Faculty Development wish to extend their gratitude towards Kiran and briefly reflect on some of her accomplishments.
