R&R Series Educational Event and 19th Annual Dr. William Webber Lecture: Teaching with Love: A Practice of Power, Presence, and Possibility

WHEN: Friday, September 12, 2025, 8:30am – 1:00pm

WHERE: Various in-person sites across the province. Virtual access available for the Webber lecture.

SPEAKER: Katie Lee Bunting, Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, University of British Columbia.

Join us for this half-day event where we will explore the transformative power of teaching with love in health professions education. Together, we’ll reflect on the key dimensions of love as a pedagogical practice, and discuss how compassion and human connection can be meaningfully integrated into your own teaching.

Supporting Nutrition and Healthy Eating

The Faculty Development Office received a Healthy Workplace Initiative Funding Award and were able to host an amazing event with the talented Chef Paul Natrall, known locally as “Mr. Bannock.” The Office joined Chef Paul for an engaging “Bannock tacos” cooking session focused on Indigenous cuisine. Participants had the opportunity to learn about Chef Paul and his work for the community. It was a fun, informative experience that left everyone inspired to make healthier choices in the kitchen. A big thank you to Chef Paul and all who joined for this wonderful event!

	June 2023 2023 Faculty/ Resident Development Initiatives Grant (FRDIG) - Call for Applications is Now Open! The Faculty/ Resident Development Initiatives Grant (FRDIG) offered by the Office of Faculty Development supports projects from faculty and residents in the Faculty of Medicine. The focus of the projects must aim to enhance the quality or scholarship of teaching in the Faculty of Medicine within the faculty development priority areas of health professions education that are widely transferrable across contexts. 	March 2023 This year’s annual Medical Education Day was held on Friday March 3rd, in-person at the University Golf Club. The theme for the day was Teaching and Assessing Learners with Disabilities. The 17th William Webber Lecturer was Dr. Lisa Meeks from the University of Michigan Medical School and and her talk was on Creating Inclusive Training Programs for Trainees with Disabilities. 	January 2023 Dr. Heather Buckley has been appointed as Associate Dean, Faculty Development in the Faculty of Medicine, effective to November 30, 2027. Dr. Buckley is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Family Practice and a scholar at the Centre for Health Education Scholarship (CHES). Her history of involvement in the Faculty of Medicine includes 20 years as a teacher and 10 years as a leader on the Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP) Faculty Development team. Dr. Buckley is the Provincial Portfolio Lead for the Undergraduate Medical Education Program, served as a fellow in CHES’s Clinical Educator Fellowship Program, and is a recipient of the Association of the Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) Award for Outstanding Contribution to Faculty Development in Canada.
