Policy 031B outlines key responsibilities of clinical supervisors. The clinical environment should support students to achieve the goals of their educational program, rather than fulfilling service requirements. Matching medical students with clinical responsibilities at their level and gradually increasing responsibilities under your guidance is key to progressing educational goals while ensuring patient safety.

In addition, it is important that Clinical Supervisors are aware of and ensure student working hours are observed. This is covered in Policy 10, which states the following:
- Students should not work more than 11 hours on days when not on-call, or more than 55 hours a week (not including evening, night or weekend call)
- Students should not exceed an average of one in four on-call (night and weekend)
- Students are automatically excused before 10:00 a.m. post call
- The Medical Student Duty Hours & Important Dates handout provides a helpful summary of this policy
