Dr. Michael Purdon, Regional Faculty Development Director, Southern Medical Program. Dr. Michael Purdon is a Family Physician and new Community Medical Director, West Region for the Interior Health Authority. Dr. Purdon completed his medical degree at McGill University followed by his family practice residency at Beverly Hospital and Tufts University Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Purdon has been in practice since 1993, most recently as the Medical Director, Family Medicine Practice for the Swedish Medical Group in Issaquah, Washington. Dr. Purdon is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, Washington State Academy of Family Practice, and BC Medical Association.
In 2002, Dr. Purdon completed a Fellowship in Faculty Development from the University of Washington. He has an extensive background in medical teaching for both residents and students and has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching. For the past 13 years, Dr. Purdon has served the University of Washington Faculty of Medicine as Lecturer for the Faculty Development Fellowship, Associate Director for the Swedish Family Medicine Residency Program, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine. Previously, he served as a Clinical Instructor for the UBC Faculty of Medicine Department of Family Medicine’s residency program while practicing in Victoria from 1997-1999.
As Director, Faculty Development, Dr. Purdon will be responsible for the team building, planning and implementation of faculty development within the Southern Medical Program including Kelowna, Kamloops, Vernon, and Trail. He will work closely with the SMP’s site faculty leaders and senior administration to build and support the program’s faculty development network and activities across the BC Interior.
